Roadmap design Finance Data Hub @ Air France - KLM

The Air France KLM - IMO Finance & Procurement team contributes to operational excellence in Finance through process improvements and IT innovation. Examples: - Finance Data Hub including Data Analytics - Enterprise Performance Management - Robotic Process Automation - Rationalization of the IT landscape of business solutions - One central Direct Operating Cost System at Procurement

A.  Project Objectives

Start of 2021 there is 25% availability of the current AFKL Finance data available in the Finance Data Hub; planned to grow to 55% in 2021 and finalize the connection of important sources in 2022. AirFrance - KLM business and all stakeholders are discovering the data driven world of Finance to create value with our vast amount of data.

This project will create the input for our FDH roadmap 2022-2027

The current FDH solution consists of three Data Lakes, hosted at Schiphol, Valbonne and Toulouse. Each of these Data Lakes has his own specifics, loosely connected to the other two Data Lakes. Projects need to consume data from any of the three Data Lakes, totally transparent for the end-users. For the developers there are continuous challenges which lead to suboptimal use of the FDH solution.

Discover the world outside the AirFrance KLM bubble and advice the best approach to common solutions:

  • Hadoop, Talend, Cassandra, SAMOA, CDH, SQL, SAP-BW, TeraData, and et cetera for storing big data volumes
  • Spotfire, SAP Analytics Cloud, Qliksence, Tableau, PowerBI and etcetera for front-end reporting
  • Essbase, Bizzview, Hyperion, CXO, SAP-BW, SSAS, and et cetera for management/OLAP cubes
  • Easy access between the various tools via standard industry connectors
  • Strong driver to move to industry standard where applicable
  • Application reduction as a key IT driver

B. Case description

Develop the five-year roadmap must be developed for the time span of 2022 to 2027; drivers are efficiency product roadmap of our various suppliers. Ideal picture removes the political and cumbersome decision-making. The roadmap serves as a simple, easy-to-follow source of truth for key stakeholders to visualize the project from a strategic standpoint and make critical decisions without having to sift through the minutiae.

Roadmap building from existing product roadmaps provided by suppliers and our IT departments, business SaaS roadmaps, desktop study and interviews with the stakeholders.

  • Functional flaws and mismatches
  • Data modeling, design of data ingestion process

2. Evaluate SWOT of the current FDH set-up compared to external competition via desktop study. Elaborate on effectiveness and efficiency of current toolset within AirFrance KLM applicable for execution of this project.

Background: AirFrance KLM has designed an architecture to support its Data driven ambition. Evaluate/validate that for the Finance & Procurement domain the defined and selected toolset fits into the supplier product roadmap and is compliant with the Finance roadmap, landscape and organization.

3. Is the one (scattered) product team, two airlines, and three Data Lakes concept future proof?

Advise on organizational aspects and conditions with regard to the FDH approach; elaborate on organizational conditions within AirFrance KLM execution of the FDH roadmap with three yearly product increments, split into sprints the ideal set-up.
