AR/XR Developer Intern - Research and build for conferences

Help us bring Seekable's technology to life through Augmented Reality. Research and test the latest AR/MR glasses/hardware, identify the best platform for a conference/trade-show environment, and develop an interactive product to be exhibited at international trade shows!

Build the future of Seekable's trade-show experience

Are you interested in AR/XR and building things from scratch? Join Seekable and help us explore how Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality can transform the way we demonstrate our technology at international trade shows and conferences.

We are looking for a hands-on student who can take this project from research → hardware selection → concept → software development → working product.

Your challenge

Seekable delivers advanced offshore, nearshore, and onshore cable detection solutions. Our technology can involve complex technical information that have the potential to be better communicated via an interactive/visual experience beyond conventional presentations.

We want you to explore how we can utilize AR/MR to translate complex information into an interactive/visual experience that a trade-show visitor can understand within a few minutes.

Your first task will be to research the current AR/MR hardware landscape and determine what is actually suitable for our needs.

You will investigate and compare factors such as:

  • Display and field of view
  • Tracking and spatial mapping
  • Interaction methods
  • Battery life
  • Portability
  • Comfort
  • Reliability
  • Standalone vs. connected operation
  • SDK and development support
  • Unity/Unreal/OpenXR compatibility
  • Cost and availability

Based on your research, you will recommend the most suitable hardware and technology stack.

From research to prototype

Once the platform has been selected, you will help us design and develop the experience.

Depending on the chosen technology, this could involve:

  • Unity and/or Unreal Engine
  • C#, or any other programming language
  • OpenXR
  • 3D modelling and visualisation
  • Spatial interaction
  • AR/MR interfaces
  • Interactive 3D environments
  • Data visualisation
  • Integration of Seekable's technical/geophysical data

The exact concept is intentionally open. We want you to help us determine what will create the most compelling experience.

For example, a visitor could put on AR glasses and enter a 3D representation of an offshore environment. They could then interact with the environment and see how Seekable's technology detects or characterises subsea infrastructure.

You will help answer questions such as:

What should the visitor see?
What should they be able to interact with?
Which hardware provides the best experience?
How can complex technical information be made intuitive?
How do we make the experience reliable and inclusive enough for a busy and international trade-show environment?

Your final deliverable

The goal is to produce a working AR/MR MVP that can be demonstrated at Seekable's trade-show booths from February 2027.

The application should ideally be:

  • Easy to start and reset
  • Intuitive for first-time users
  • Visually engaging
  • Portable
  • Reliable
  • Capable of running a short 2–5 minute demonstration
  • Suitable for repeated demonstrations throughout a trade show

The ultimate goal is not simply to produce an academic prototype. We want to create something that real visitors can use and experience.

What we are looking for

You are a good fit if you:

  • Study Software Engineering, HBO-ICT, Computer Science, Game Development or a related programme
  • Enjoy programming and building things yourself
  • Have an interest in AR, VR, MR, XR or spatial computing
  • Interest and some experience with Unity, Unreal Engine, or OpenXR
  • Are interested in 3D environments and interactive applications
  • Enjoy researching new technology and figuring out how it works
  • Can independently test different approaches and make recommendations
  • Are proactive, curious and comfortable experimenting

Previous AR/VR experience is a plus, but it is not essential.

What matters most is that you enjoy solving problems and are excited by the opportunity to take an emerging technology from an idea to something people can actually use.

What you will get

This is a project where you will have genuine ownership.

You will:

  • Work with real AR/MR hardware
  • Research and compare emerging technologies
  • Make recommendations that influence the final product
  • Design and develop a working application
  • Work with a real technology company and technical team
  • Work with real-world technical data
  • Build a substantial project for your portfolio
  • Potentially see your work demonstrated at international trade shows

This is not a maintenance or routine programming internship. You will help determine what we should build, how we should build it, and then build the first version.

About Seekable

Seekable is an innovative team of geophysicists, engineers and software developers, founded in 2022 and combining experience, knowledge and passion. Our mission is to deliver a plug-and-play cable and pipeline tracking product. By providing high accuracy data on cable positioning and burial depth, our system will facilitate a safer, more sustainable and efficient environment for cable maintenance.

Interested?

Tell us briefly why AR/XR interests you. Previous projects, games, prototypes or other technical work is highly appreciated.

You don't need to have built an AR application before, we are looking for someone who likes to build, experiment and figure things out.
